Cleaning guide

How long does professional house cleaning take?

There is no fixed duration for a house cleaning. Time on site is driven by square footage, the number of bathrooms, the condition of the home, whether the visit is a regular, deep or move clean, any extras you add, how many cleaners are working, and how quickly the crew can get in and start. Recurring homes generally take less time per visit than one time cleans because less accumulates between visits.

The ranges on this page are general planning examples to help you set aside time. They are not Spotless Solutions guarantees, and no visit is billed by the hour based on them.

The seven variables that move duration

1. Size of the home

More square footage means more floor, more surfaces and more travel between rooms. Size is the single biggest driver, but it is not the only one.

2. Number of bathrooms

Bathrooms are the most time dense rooms in a house. A 2,000 square foot home with four bathrooms takes noticeably longer than a 2,000 square foot home with two.

3. Condition on the day

Buildup, clutter on surfaces, dishes in the sink and heavy pet hair all add time. This is where the same home can vary by a wide margin from visit to visit.

4. Type of clean

A regular maintenance clean is the fastest. A deep clean adds detail work and takes materially longer. A move in or move out clean covers the inside of cabinets, drawers, closets and appliances in an empty home, which is longer again.

5. Extras

Inside the oven, inside the refrigerator, interior windows, blinds, wall washing, cabinet interiors and laundry each add real time. Add them deliberately rather than by default.

6. Crew size

Two cleaners in a home do not take exactly half the time of one, but they are close on larger jobs. Crew size is assigned based on the job, so total time on site can differ even when the work is identical.

7. Access and start time

Parking, elevators, gate codes, locked doors, pets that need to be secured and unclear instructions all eat into the visit. Clear access instructions are the easiest thing a customer can control.

Why recurring visits go faster

A home cleaned every week or every two weeks never gets far from baseline. Bathrooms have less buildup, kitchens have less grease, and floors have less accumulated grit. That is the same reason recurring plans cost less per visit: weekly saves 25%, every 2 weeks saves 20%, monthly saves 15% and quarterly saves 10%.

How to make your visit go faster

  • Clear surfaces and floors of clutter so cleaning time goes to cleaning.
  • Run or empty the dishwasher before the crew arrives, unless dishes are booked as an extra.
  • Give clear access instructions: parking, entry, alarm and where to start.
  • Have a plan for pets so nobody needs to pause and manage them.
  • Tell us your top two priorities so the most important rooms are never the ones that get squeezed.

Do I need to be home?

No. Many customers give entry instructions and go about their day. If you prefer to be there, that is fine too. Either way, leave a note about priorities and anything the crew should avoid.

Common questions

How long does a house cleaning take?
It depends on the home. Square footage, bathroom count, condition, whether the visit is regular, deep or a move clean, any extras, crew size and access all change the time on site. Deep and move cleans always take longer than a regular maintenance clean of the same home.
Does Spotless Solutions guarantee a specific cleaning duration?
No. We plan each visit around the home rather than promising a fixed number of hours, and any ranges we publish are general planning examples rather than commitments.
Why does my clean take less time than my neighbor's?
Bathroom count, condition, clutter, pets, the type of clean and the extras booked can differ a lot between two homes of similar size. Recurring homes also take less time per visit because less accumulates between cleans.
Do I need to be home during the cleaning?
No. You can leave access instructions and go about your day, or be home if you prefer. Either way, clear entry details and a short note about priorities help the visit run smoothly.
